Abstract:As update and complement of Chinese Total Diet Study in 1990, a renewing study was conducted dur-ing 1992 1993 according to regulated procedure. Contents of 32 elements, including l9 newly deter-mined, in 12 categories of food from 12 provinces were analyzed by NAA or AAS technique and the dailyintakes of Chinese adult man were estimated and hygienically evaluated. Meanwhile, a typical survey ondietary composition and intake for difference arnong 4 age groups and between Spring and Autumn was sur-veyed too. The results provide important basis for decision for further imProvement of Chinese diet fromhygienic view point and compilation of physiological characteristics of Chinese Reference Man. At the endof this article, the estimated nationwide average intakes for adlllt man are compared with those for currentICRP Reference Man.

Abstract:Primary rat tracheal epithelium (RTE) cells can be transformed in vitro by a-particles irradiation. Oneout of 3 isolated morphologically trans formed colonies gave rise to an immortal cell line and ultimately be-came neoplastic by successive passaging. Cytogenetic analysis was performed on the cell line in order to un-derstand how the specific chromosome alterations participate in the process of neoplastic transformation ofRTE cells. The 5th, 18th, 39th passage cells and the colony cells isolated from soft agar (SA) culturing ofthe 4oth passage cells were analyzed. The results showed that the 2Oth passage cells were nontumorigenic, but the 4Oth passage cells were tumorigenic. The increase of the length of the long arrn of chromosome 15(15q+ ) was frequent at the 5th passage (67. 8% ), especially in SA cells in which it occurred in a clonalfashion (100% ) Therefore, 15q+ might be the critical gene lesion after a-particles irradiation. Mono-somy of chromosome 8 that occurred frequently at passage 5 (54% ) and 40 (53% ) might be correlatedwith earlier transformation of RTE cells. In addition, three marker chromosomes (Ml, M2 and M3)showed a passage-dependent increase’ In particular M1 and M2 that were highly frequent at passage 39(90% ) suggested that they might play an important role in the process of cell transformation.

Abstract:The present study was designed to investigate the production of tumor necrosis factor a (TNFα) in-duced by low-dose (1μg/kg) lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and its cellular source after hemorrhagic shock(HS) in rats, and to further analyze the mechanism for increased sensitivity to LPS through looking at ex-pression of lipopolysaccharide -binding protein (LBP ) mRN A in t he liver, lungs and kidneys. lt wa s foundin uiuo that plasma TNFa levels in the HS+LPS group were 20-fold higher than that in the HS group (P<0. 01 ), and 2. 7-fold higher than that in the LPS group (P<0. 05). lt was shown in ndro that the ca-pacity of peripheral white blood cells to produce TNFa in response to LPS stimulation was significantly de-creased by 126 % (P<0. 01 ) and 57% (P<0. 05) compared with pre-shock levels and the sham group re-spectively at the end of resuscitation following shock, and was still markedly decreased 3 hours after resus-citation, while the capacity of Kupffer Cells was significantly increased by 110% compared with the shamgroup (P<0. 01) after shock and resuscitation. Results from RT-PCR showed that expression of LBPmRNA in the liver, lungs and kidneys was increased after shock and resuscitation. It is suggested thathemorrhagic shock could significantly enhance endotoxin-induced TNFa production, which might be due toup-regulation of LBP expression in tissues after shock, and tissue macrophages might be the main source ofcytokine production.

Abstract:Carbon monoxide is thought to serve as a new endogenous mediator in the pathogenesis of sepsis andseptic shock. In newborn rat endotoxicosis, carbon monoxide levels in the circulation as well as liver, kid-ney and lung were found to be significantly increased (P<0. 05). Moreover, the elevations of carbonmonoxide correlated with enhanced nitric oxide production as indicated by nitrite/nitrate levels (P<0. 05).Our present data showed for the first time that endogenously produced carbon monoxide was increasedduring the course of shock-like states, which suggested that the role of carbon monoxide in sepsis and sep-tic shock might worth further study.

Abstract:For meeting the clinic needs in simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplantation (SPK), we success-fully establish a syngeneic SPK transplatation model in Lewis rats. The results indicate that this model isfeasible with a 82. 6% successful rate of operation and a 69. 6% survival rate in the first postoperativeweek. In long-term survived rats, the blood supplies are well established, function of the grafts (pancreasand kidney) maintains normal. This model is suitable for theoretical reserach in SPK transplantation for itsreasonable physiology with pancreatic juice drained into intestine and reduced postoperative complications inurinary tract and carbohydrate metabolism.

Abstract:To evaluate the change of perioperative cell mediated immunity after cardiac operation with cardiopul-monary bypass (CPB), so as to provide some information for timely prevention and treatment against post-operative immunological disorder, 40 patients were studied. By searching for the effects of CPB and anes-thesia, interleukln-2 receptor (IL-2R) expression upon the surface of peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMC), as well as interleukin-2 (IL-2) production in vitro was traced 55 min after anesthesia, at end ofCPB, on postoperative 1, 7, and 14 day versus preanesthesia control. Our data demonstrated that expres-sion of IL-2R on PBMC was significantly suppressed in all comparing with the baseline value, meanwhile,IL-2 production in vitro also statistically dropped. However,no statistical difference was found on perioper-ative IL 2R expression and IL-2 synthesis in the cholecystectomy group. We conclude that postoperativeimmunological disorder seems to be the main factor, which could be denoted as reduced IL 2R expressionon PBMC and lL-2 synthesis in vitro for sepsis, even multiple system organ failure developed after cardiacsurgery.

Abstract:Fifteen hybridoma cell lines producing monoclonal antiboclies (McAb) against recombinant human tu-mor necrosis factor a (rhTNFa) have been established by fusing SP 2/0 cells with spleen cells from aBALB/c mouse immunized with rhTNFa. Following J M Davis’s Works, semi-solid medium was usedfor initial cloning. Five of them were studied further. Their main chromosome- numbers range were 96 to105, all of them were IgG1 subclass. The affinities of these McAbs were estimated to be 1. 25 ×108 mol/L, 1. 12×108 mol/L, 2. 34×108 mol/L, 8. 55 × 107 mol/L, 1. 04×108 mol/L, respectively. Two groups of mice challenging with E Coli (107 organisms), one group treated with 2mg/kg anti-TNF monoclonal antibody, the other did not. There was a higher survival rate in treated group, the serumTNF level was significantly lower too, and the untreated mice had severe pathologic changes in vlscera.

Abstract:Twenty-two cases of scoliosis with Harrington-rods broken after operation were treated by rod-sleevemethod. The results of follow-up from 1 year and 3 months to 9 years and 3 months showed that all of thepatients, but one patient occurred Harrington-rod rebroken and one’s fixation being removed because ofback pain in 6 months and 5 years and 11 months after rod-sleeve prpcedure, respectively, had no com-plaints. The author also found that the rod underwent a decrease in cross-sectional area of approximately43. 7 % at the ratchet-shaft junction in experimental study on Harrington-rods, and stress unfairly distribu-tion, stress concentration and cyclic loading producing fatigue in metals were proved to be the main cause ofbroken by mechanical analysis of Harrington-rod loaded in the body. In concluson, the rod-sleeve proce-dure was the effective method to keep from, Ha rrington - reds broken.

Abstract:During a 12-year period, 44 patients were surgically treated for stage- Ⅲ peripheral squamous cell car-cinoma of the right upper lobe. The mean time from the discovery of the shadow in the right upper lobe tothe confirmation of the diagnosis was 2 months. All patients underwent the resection of the right upperlobe with the dissection of the right mediastinal lymph nodes, among them, 4 patients had sleeve lobectomy of the right upper lobe. P-TNM staging: 23 cases were in stage- Ⅲ a, 21 cases in stage- Ⅲ b. The fre-quency of the postoperative complications was 20- 4 % (9/44 cases). The 1-year survival rate of all patientswas 61 % (27/44 cases). None of stage - Ⅲ b patients lived longer than 3 years. The postoperative 3-and 5-year survival rates of stage- Ⅲ a cases were 65. 2 % (15/23cases) and 21. 7 % (5/23 cases) respectively. Inthis article, the patients clinical features, the causes of delayed-diagnosis, the operative and postoperativemanagement were discussed. We suggest that the stage- Ⅲ a patients should be given surgical treatment, whereas, for the patients of stage- Ⅲ b, palliative operation was given just for the purpose of reliving thesymptoms.

Abstract:This study was planned to evaluate the effect of pregnancy on diurnal variation of intraocular pressure(IOP) after placing control on all the IOP affecting factors. The IOP was measured with the Goldmann ap-planation tonometer. Both in the control and 3rd trimester subjects, the peak of mean IOP appeared in themorning when the subJects waked, and the trough of mean IOP happened at 2 am to 4 am. The diurnal in-traocular pressure curves revealed that the lOP peaks were 15.4±0. 9 and 12. 9±0. 6 mmHg in the controland third trimester pregnant subjects, respectively. Whereas the trough were 13.1±0. 4 and 11. 8±0. 3mmHg, respectively. The mean diurnal variation were 2. 3±0. 6 mmHg (P<O.01 ), and 1.1±0. 8mmHg in the control and third trimester subjects, respectively. There are two main findings of presentstudy: first, compared with non-pregnant control subjects, the IOP was significantly lower (P<0.001 ) inthe third trimester pregnant subjects. Second, in the third trimester of pregnancy, the lower IOP level wasassociated with the less degree of IOP fluctuations at various hours of the day.

Abstract:Objectives’ To observe the effects of reflux esophagitis(RE) on the lung function and alrway reactivity, and study the mechanism of airway hyperresponsiveness(AHR) in patients with RE.Methods. Lung function measurements and airway provocation tests were performed in 31 RE patientsand 35 control subjects’ TXB, and PGF,. were determined in 20 cases of each group.Results. In RE patients the lung function was lower and the rate of AHR was higher than control sub-jects (P<0. 05). Among RE patients 25 % had higher airway sensitivity (Dminr 3u ). The TXB2 of REpatients with AHR was higher than those without AHR’ Dmin correlated significantly with TXB2 (r=0. 653, P<0. 05).Concluswhs’ RE could damage the lung function. The rate of AHR was 61 %, the high airway sensltivity was probably potential asthma, and TXB2 may play a role in the pathogenesis of AHR.

Abstract:This paper reports of 14 cases of thymic carcinoma. Most of them with symptoms of chest pain, cheststuffy and discomfort, but without combined with extrathoracic syndromes, The tumors always were largein size and frequently invaded adjacent organs, hence with low resection rate. ln this series, complete re-section of tumor only 2 cases, partial resection in 7 cases, exploratory thoracotomy in 5 cases. Thymic car-cinoma was an extremely malignant tumor with extensive invasion intrathoracally and early metastasis ex-trathoracally. The common sites of metastasis were bone, liver, lung and extrathoracic lymph nodes. Adju-vant therapy postoperatively was given to all patients. Follow-up of lbo 8 years showed 1O cases death, ofwhich 5 cases died within the first year after surgery,3 cases within the second year. Four patients werestill alive so far, in which 3 patients were within 1. 5 years postoperatively. Pathological studies revealed 9cases of squamous epithe1ial cell thymic carcinoma, 3 of lymphoepithelioma - like thymic carcinoma and 2 ofsmall cell undifferentiate thymic carcinoma.
